Dentists and oral hygienists play a vital role in the treatment of Periodontitis and Peri-implantitis, and lasers have become an increasingly popular tool in the arsenal.
Dentists and Hygienists invited to join us for an evidence-based academic lecture on the topics:
Lasers are used to decontaminate the root surface, reduce pocket depths, and remove diseased tissue.
Lasers can also be used to decontaminate implant surfaces and surrounding tissues which lead to improved patient outcomes.
Understanding and learning these principles are crucial for up-to-date patient treatments.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
Dentists are responsible for diagnosing periodontal disease and determining the appropriate treatment approach for each patient. This may involve using various diagnostic tools such as x-rays, 3D imaging and clinical measurements to assess the severity of the condition and identify the areas that may benefit from laser therapy.
Laser Therapy
Dentists and Hygienists who utilise lasers in the treatment of periodontal disease must be well-versed in the proper use of different types of lasers and understand the specific wavelengths and settings that are most effective for each application.
Patient Education
We play a crucial role in educating patients about the benefits of laser-supported therapy for periodontitis and peri-implantitis, as well as addressing any concerns or misconceptions they may have.
Monitoring and Follow-up
Following laser treatment for periodontitis or peri-implantitis, dentists are responsible for monitoring the patient’s healing progress. They may also need to provide additional supportive care eg cleanings.
Collaborating with Specialists
In cases of advanced periodontal disease or complex peri-implantitis, dentists collaborate with Periodontists to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. This collaboration ensures that patients receive the highest standard of care, with access to advanced laser technologies and expertise.
